My body of work indicates the relationships between my mother’s side of the family through collage drawings with colored pencils, charcoal and graphite. I reinvented scenes of my family by taking apart photos from my grandma’s photo albums to bring back the nostalgic memories they’ve had living in Mexico and in the United States.
My piece “Broken Sisters” shows the relationship between my mother and her sister and they don’t get along but they still have memories with each other because they’re family. “Los Hermanos Herrera” is about my grandma and her siblings but I asked for recent photos of my grandma’s brothers in Mexico since her sister passed away. Each drawing is inspired by their experiences they had with each other and represents a different setting for different parts of my family
